Christmas and Romance is a Good Mix. . .Usually

So at the library this year, I am in charge of the Christmas fiction display. This means that I have to find all of the Christmas novels and put a bunch of them out on one of our display stands and then keep it stocked with more Christmas books as they get taken from the display.

The Christmas display is one of the hardest display assignments for two reasons.
  1. Most of our displays only last two weeks before they are changed for something new. The Christmas book display goes for a month.
  2. Some displays are more popular than others meaning that more books are taken from the display shelves. Christmas fiction is one of the most popular if not THE most popular display we do all year.
This means that I have to be especially vigilant about keeping the shelves stocked. Fortunately, the library owns A LOT of Christmas books, but there is a caveat. A huge chunck of the collection is in the Romance section.

This, of course, makes sense because wouldn't you rather read about people falling in love at Christmas time as opposed to people being murdered at Christmas time? My own answer to this would be yes, unless you are talking about this book.

Warning: Rant forthcoming.

There are so many things wrong with this cover, I don't even know where to begin.

What kind of floosy mother passes off her night with a man as Santa Claus coming to visit?

And why does her daughter have to serve them in bed?!? I don't think your daughter should be anywhere near your bedroom if you have a man in there. Santa or no.

What's up with the series title, "The Little Matchmaker"? Is your daughter the one who got you to sleep with "Santa"? Does she want a new daddy so bad that she is now your pimp?

There are no good answers here. It's all just too creepy.

Note: in the book's defense, I never read the book's summary. There are hopefully good reasons for everything that is taking place on the front cover.

Not surprisingly, this book has yet to be taken from the display to be checked out.
